In the review, Joel writes:
"While many works have taken an anthropological or ethnographical approach (cf. Ghannam, 2013; Naguib, 2015; Malmström, 2021), Constructions of Masculinity in the Middle East and North Africa fills a gap by focusing specifically on masculinity through the lens of cultural and literary studies. The last comparable anthology is now more than 20 years old (Ghoussoub and Sinclair-Webb, 2000), making this a very welcome contribution, bringing the field up to date and bridging research and theories on masculinities with Middle Eastern cultural and literary studies."
