Elsa Hedling
Researcher
Elsa is an Associate Senior Lecturer in European Studies. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Lund University (2018). Her research takes place at the intersection of international relations, political sociology and media and communication studies. In past research projects she has explored the constitutive effects of digitalization on norms and practices in foreign policy and diplomacy. Among other phenomena, she has been interested in the use of social media within diplomatic organizations and communities of practice and in efforts to deal with or counter the malign effects of digitalization, most notably in the form of digital disinformation. Her empirical research focuses on the European Union (EU), NATO and to some extent other international organizations such as the UN, the AU and G20. She has also conducted research on more broad themes within EU politics and Swedish politics.
Elsa is currently participating in the VR-funded research project Postdigital propaganda and in the EU Horizon Europe funded project ADAC.IO. She is also an affiliated member of the Europe program at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs in Stockholm and of the Psychological Defence Research Institute based at Lund University.
